Why your Google Business Profile matters more than your website

If you can only fix one thing this week, it's probably not your website. It's your Google Business Profile.

For a business whose customers are all within driving distance, local search is genuinely the highest-intent channel there is, someone searching "plumber near me" or "tiler [suburb]" is ready to call today, not browsing. And for that specific kind of search, Google leans heavily on your Business Profile, not just your website's own SEO.

Four real things drive this, and none of them require a developer:

A complete profile. The right category, real business hours, your actual service areas, and real photos. An incomplete profile is a common, real reason a genuinely better business ranks below a worse one with a fuller listing. Google favours profiles that are actually filled in and kept current.

Consistent details everywhere (your "NAP"). Your business name, address, and phone number need to match exactly between your Google listing, your website, and any directory you're listed on. A suburb spelled slightly differently in one place is a real, confirmed signal that works against you: it reads to Google as two different, less-trustworthy businesses rather than one consistent one.

Genuine reviews. Reviews are one of the strongest local ranking factors that exist, and they're also the thing a real customer trusts most before calling. This isn't about gaming the count. It's about actually asking real customers, consistently, right after a job is finished while it's fresh.

Regular activity. Google visibly favours profiles that post updates and stay active over ones that were set up once and forgotten. This doesn't need to be elaborate: a photo from a recent job, posted every couple of weeks, is enough to signal the business is genuinely operating.

None of this replaces having a real website, the two work together, and ScopeFound checks both. But if you're choosing where to spend the next twenty minutes, your Google Business Profile is very likely the better use of that time than another pass on your homepage copy.
